Humour
built 188 days ago
Humour is a consequence of language. Language is an approximation of thoughts through symbolic manipulation, and the gap between the expections inherent in those symbols and the breaking of those expectations leads to laughter. Irony is explicitly this form of comedy, whereas slapstick takes more passive social norms relating to physicality and plays with them. In other words, comedy is a sign of a 'bug' in the symbolic make-up of language, as well as a self-correcting mechanism for such bugs. Once the problem in meaning has been described through a joke, people immediately begin correcting their impressions of the symbols that have been mocked. This is why jokes are only funny when told the first time.

Humour (humor in "American" English) is a form of entertainment and a form of human communication, intended to make people laugh and feel happy (often at the expense of France, and rightly so). (see Humor). Modern scientific research has proved that every humorous endeavor makes at least one person laugh and feel happy, that one person being the author of same. The typical Uncyclopedia article is considered funny by roughly one person, although in rare cases, fewer. Not to be confused with it's sometimes un-funny American equivalent, Humor.

Humour that works in the workplace has to do with attitude. It means seeing the humour in everyday situations. It means taking everything and everyone not quite so seriously. It means having the confidence to laugh at yourself. And remember that when you laugh at yourself, you don't risk offending others. Dr. Terry L. Paulson describes self-depreciating humour this way.

Humour is ... sometimes described as an ingredient in spiritual life. Humour is also the act of being funny. Some synonyms of funny or humour are hilarious, knee-slapping, spiritual, wise-minded, outgoing, and amusing. Some Masters have added it to their teachings in various forms. A famous figure in spiritual humour is the laughing Buddha, who would answer all questions with a laugh

Humour can often be derived from existing jokes, simply by taking the humourous element of the joke and replacing it with one of equal hilarity. Using instances of "bad humour" often results in increased hilarity, adding to the overall humour of the situation.
